Eco-Schools 'Green Flag' Status
We are delighted to announce that as a result of the efforts of pupils, staff and parents, the school has been awarded the highest Eco Schools Award not once but twice! We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised and sustained over time.

Introduction
At Gotherington School we aim to go green and reduce the waste that the school produces. We have a number of eco-events planned throughout the year and we are implementing an action plan to make our school a greener place. We even have our own Eco-Committee!

Our Eco Code
We have devised an Eco-Code to promote eco-living. This code is displayed in the hall and main school entrance so that everyone can see and follow it.

Our Action Plan
The Eco-Committee have completed an environmental review and from this they have devised their very own action plan. This is divided up into key areas such as energy, litter, transport, healthy eating and bio-diversity. The action plan is reviewed regularly so that we can keep an eye on the progress that we have made.

What have we been doing?
With the help of FOGS and some local businesses, we have invested time in developing our nature area where we have been planting trees and insect-friendly plants, providing safe places for animals to live, composting our fruit waste, growing our own vegetables, and promoting walk-to-school and scoot-to-school programmes to ease traffic. We even held our own 'Bug Day' to promote wildlife and to raise money for a famous children's hospital. The day included a special assembly, a bug-themed non-uniform day and a wellie-pede conga!

How can you help?
You can promote eco-friendliness by re-cycling aluminium, plastic bottles and paper, turning off any un-used appliances and helping your child to eat a healthy packed lunch when they are at school.
