Our Computing Aim: To prepare pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to become safe and active participants in a digital world by:

  • Developing computational thinking skills
  • Ensure children become digitally literate- in that they are able to use and express themselves through Computing.
  • Ensure pupils understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of Computing.
  • Allowing pupils to explore, create and use a range of digital tools both creatively and for a range of purposes.
  • Develop a clear understanding of their responsibilities when using digital technologies so that they become good digital citizens.
  • Understand the opportunities that technology offer but also be aware of issues and the ways in which they can protect themselves from harm.
  • Ensure that pupils can evaluate and apply information technology in order to solve problems
Intent
Our computing curriculum aims to ensure children become digitally literate- in that they are able to use and express themselves through Computing. These key skills and concepts, which are revisited throughout different units, are: Understanding technology, Programming, Digital Literacy and E-Safety. We aim to prepare pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to become safe and active participants in a digital world.

Implementation
In order to continue developing and building on children’s computing skills the scheme ilearn2 is being used. Here there is a structure to each lesson and prior learning is always considered. It is ensured that pupils understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of Computing before moving on to the next step. Children’s understanding and use of technology is built on every year and in keeping with up to date advances in modern technology.

Impact
We want to develop children’s computational thinking skills and allowing pupils to explore, create and use a range of digital tools both creatively and for a range of purposes. We aim for children to develop a clear understanding of their responsibilities when using digital technologies so that they become good digital citizens and assess formatively and summatively throughout the year.
